Our Cold Weather Streak Has Ended
It actually broke LAST weekend but I didn’t want to say anything out loud and jinx it. But now that we’re getting away from it, I feel like it’s SAFE to talk about.
If I made it cold again by writing about it, and you live here, forget I said this.
A little over three weeks ago, our college kid sent us a text with the words, 65 BELOW here. That’s 65 degrees BELOW ZERO.
We were much warmer here, about 20 below. That is still really cold. And then it got colder.
And that cold awful winter weather was here for around 3 weeks or so. Three weeks of being afraid the cars wouldn’t start, one of them did that. The battery just gave up. Three weeks of trying to keep it warm enough in the house without ruining our utilities budget. Three weeks of wondering how the chickens were doing it. And the wild moose. And well, everything and everyone that was not sheltered.
Last week in about 24 hours our temperatures went from around 20 below to 15 above. It’s always a wild ride when a cold spell breaks.
Today its 35 degrees, the wind is blowing, and everything is melting and dripping. What a week it has been. What a JANUARY it has been.
So, uh, how was your January?
A fellow substack author gave me a couple of prompts for AI art. So, I thought I’d give them a whirl.
This was pretty straightforward and surprisingly spot-on. If those mountains were real, this is what it would look like. I do have plenty, PLENTY, of winter sunrises, but I enjoy using prompts from readers to make fun AI art images.
Another from the same writer and reader was this prompt for Alaskan Midnight in July. Where I live this is also pretty spot on.
