I think the last time I posted to Substack it was at the beginning-ish of April. And I was pondering the strength of Break-Up.
I think I said “It is the most drastic month of seasonal change any human should live through, you start it in a snowsuit and end it in sandals; that’s the long and short of it.”
And boy howdy, was that true! We went from drifts 4 feet and higher in our yard to a wet swampy mess in 3 weeks. One day the driveway was snowy the next large patches of gravel showed up. Our Smithy for Palmer Folk School was KNEE DEEP in snow, and I couldn’t fathom that we’d be teaching anything any time soon. The ditch berms which was so deep you could barely see over it, melted away in no time at all. The other day I wore sandals outside. WHAT? Like without socks on.
Every day revealed more of winters transgressions too. The large pile of gravel left from plowing out after our 8-day 3 snowstorms MARVEL in December and the following windstorm.
Every dog toy our dogs have were in the yard. This is weird because there are a ton left inside and we didn’t know any were missing. Sneaky dogs.
What I’m loving right now? The freedom to walk outside without a coat, some days anyway.
The flocking flying geese, cranes, ducks, and swans. And the falcons, and hawks are flying through too!
The return of songbirds trilling in the woods.
Our woodpecker knocking confidently on our trees setting his territory.
The grill looking ready to cook whatever I throw on it.
My chickens ranging in the garden before being locked up for the summer.
And dreaming about the perpetual abundance of summer produce. I just posted a Chocolate Zucchini Muffin recipe over on my recipe website so if you’re interested in how to use up MORE zucchini check it out!
I’m having fun making AI art to include in the posts when I don’t have photos to add. I will make sure to grab photos and put them in posts in the future.
IN THE MEANTIME leave me an AI prompt word to create art for the next substack I send out by leaving a comment on this post. I’d love to see what we can create together.
Cheers!
How about Alaskan mid day sunrise? Or Alaskan midnight in July?
Yes… thank you for the meal planning sheet- it will be utilized. Love the side area for shopping list. Have printed and will be used… just thinking how holiday planning will be elevated to a new level.
