I’m not going to address the weather this week. I feel like I’ve been very weather observant of late and it’s time to let that go. Also, I think it’s just acting up for attention at this point. Suffice it to say that IF you happen to celebrate Western Easter your outdoor egg hunt was probably done in fresh snow.
BUT ANYWAY
I thought I’d do a round-up of cool things I read about this week. And I’ll add links as applicable so you can read about them too!
That’s a piece of AI Art generated by a prompt. It’s kind of beautiful, right?
3 Old Guys Ride to Fairbanks. Three guys between the ages of 66 and 72 have been riding their snowmachines from Northern Minnesota to Fairbanks. That’s a long trip! Supposedly they're just about to hit Fairbanks after about 6 weeks on the trail. I know the iron dog is a race but this trip sounds like more fun!
And Three Guys have ridden their Fat Tire Bikes from Knik (near Wasilla) all the way to Nome on the Iditarod trail! They made it in 18 days. I think this year's winning musher, Ryan Redington, did it in a little under 9 days. Would you rather bike, or ride?
A young moose walked right into Providence Hospital in Anchorage last week. It spent a while trying to eat the plants in the lobby before being escorted from the facility. And another moose on the Kenai Peninsula came in with someone’s dog and ate their houseplants. It’s been a tough year for Moose, see the aforementioned “I’m not talking about the weather again” paragraph.
I’ve seen some cool stories of the Herring Egg Harvest in Southeast Alaska! Here’s a piece on what the Herring Harvest entails and what it means as a subsistence harvest in Alaska.
Locally in Southcentral Alaska, the road restrictions are here! That means summer is actually coming. Generally speaking for the few weeks of break-up into early spring while the ground is mushy and soft no heavy trucks are allowed on the roads. When you see the road restriction signs go up it means that IT’S HAPPENING!!
Notes From Home
From Alaska to the rest of the United States:
Dear friends, we know you want to visit Alaska this summer and see what we have to offer. Please understand that winter is late in leaving. Don’t plan any early May trips or you’re going to be here for Break-Up which is an ugly time to visit.
Your Homework for the week: Leave a descriptive one-word comment to help me make a piece of AI art for next week. I’ll compile the comments into a prompt and see what we get!
